Ever see a real turnaround at a LTC?

Just curious. I was hired at a place with a notoriously bad reputation. The ADON who hired me said the new team (DON, ADON, Administrator) had all been together for almost a year and things were going to turn around, they were making a big push for more full time nurses, less agency, more teamwork. Surprise, it's not working. My first week there the DON and Administrator were fired. The ADON is running around like a maniac trying to keep things together. The staff morale is in the dumps. Lotsa new floor nurses were hired, but they are keeping the same charge nurses. Many nurses just show up whenever they feel like it, and you never know when (or if) you're going to get out of there for the day. My question is, for this type of place, has anyone ever seen a positive turnaround? If so, how did they do it????????? Thanks!;)

Having been in and out of care homes over the past couple of months, trying to find the squeeky clean care home I dream of, I have came to one conclusion. As long as the practice is not bad, then no matter how many staff come and go, it's the people who stay there that make the changes. Perhaps we have to think about the effect the changes have on our residents and then push changes in the right direction for them.

No, I personally have never seen a turn around. The DON and Administrator that were just fired are an example of why it does not happen. Chances are they were pushing for reforms that had a negative effect on bottom line and that got them sacked. Shame cause they were probably good people. PS On a positive side you may get input from others who do have something good to say. Sorry, I don't but wish I did.

It sounds like you and I are working at the same facility. Every time some one comes along that tries to break the cycle of everyone doing whatever the heck they want to do they end up getting fired. People come an hour late or not at all and nothing is done. Patient care seems to be secondary to getting paid. And I'm sorry to say that this has been going on the 2 1/2 years I have worked there.

I am a DNS new to a facility and have a new ADNS working there as well. We have 2 new social workers and a new SDC. We WILL turn the building around. Survey is any day now and I am not going to freak out about it. Que sera sera...but we are moving forward from this point in time with a very motivated, intelligent, forceful team and WILL fix things.

Y'all come work for me and you can be part of making things better.

I did it in another building and this is just another challenge.
