Evening shift and BAD eating habits!

Published

Hello

To all you evening shift folks out there, do you ever find yourself eating when you get home?

It's almost 1am by the time I wind down and get to bed, and it seems like eating is a part of that "wind down" routine.

Do others do this?

Any pointers for better eating during evenings?

We work a tough shift.... busy from start to finish. I think we're in the mode of eating whenever we can, just in case. Which means on not-so- busy days, we're not eating out of hunger.

HELP!

I still want my scrubs to fit :p.

I had the same issue in the evening when I got home, hardly had time to eat all day so I come home and wanted to munch, then it's usually off to bed to go at it the next day. I like the idea someone else posted about eating a bowl of cereal, it usually sits well w/ my stomach and doesn't make me feel too full. ALso the best thing that I could have done for myself was to join a gym. I actually want to eat healthier and the cravings for junk have lowered. It took all the will power I had to join but it's the best thing I've done in a long time. I actually feel good at work and on my days off. And honestly I might only go once a week but that one day of lifting wieghts makes all the difference on my body. Plus helps get rid of all the frusteration that piles up from work, take it out on the weights.

I used to buy the $1 Banquet TV dinners and eat them after evening shifts because I always craved salt. I would inhale the Mexican ones in like 2 seconds...then would treat myself to half a pint of ice cream while I watched my DVR of all the day's shows. Then a hot bath and bed. Of course, after I took my sleep meds which I did as soon as I got home.

I really need to start working out!

I crave salt too! I like cheese and crackers, chips and dip, and these garlic stuffed green olives that are soooo delicious.

I love chips and dip...there is a cracker out there that is garlic and herb (not sure which brand makes it) take it and dip it into some soft cream cheese...delicious!

I don't work a night shift or anything, but I am a late night snacker. I used to eat a bowl of cereal just about every night until I saw a study done on visual cues and eating. I switched my bowl to a mug and I can honestly say that I feel just as full. It could be that the cup looks full, so I get the visual cue that I have eaten enough. Moral of the story= use smaller containers filled with food. Good luck conquering your midnight monster.
