I'm so completely over how my school treats their students. It isn't even worth it to elaborate because I wouldn't put it past them to be searching on this board for reasons to reprimand us. I have been boiling inside since like 4 months into the program and it hasn't stopped yet. I am going to need some serious psychiatric help after this.
Anyone still working with CNAs on their med/surg clinical rotation? At a nursing home?
Please tell me I'm not the only one not learning anything.

That's not specific to your program. I went through the LPN program at Traviss in Lakeland almost 3 years ago and we were treated the same way at almost every facility we went to for clinicals. A large part of it was due to LPNs not being hired in hospitals at the moment. I had many, many clinicals were I, as well as my classmates, were completely ignored by the nurses we were assigned to. The only ones who welcomed us with open arms were the CNAs who loved having the extra help, but, as you say, we didn't really learn much.

We go to LTC's as well for our rotations and learning so much! I have a pt who is on a vent, has a trach, two nephro tubes, a GT tube along with a Foley. The pt is there from a MVA 5 years ago and the family is praying that the person wakes up someday. I have learned how to suction, care for a trach, administer meds through a GT, along with basic pt care.
When we first started at the LTC, I mainly worked with the CNA's as well and then asked if I could by any chance get a more in depth assignment with pt's who needed more care. My clinical instructor said that if I could find a nurse willing to work with me that it would be okay to switch my assignment. Now, I am so happy that I have this exposure.
I would talk with your instructor and see what your options are as far as getting a different assignment, all they can say is no.
My instructor is the most negative nasty woman I've ever met in my life. The clinical site I am at is a 1 star facility, and I have been there for THREE rotations. They are supposed to switch us around, but apparently somebody got lazy. I am so beyond annoyed at the situation. I found a procedure to do last week and I couldn't even perform it because the facility didn't have the kit to do it! It's ridiculous. They tell us we need 1 procedure a week, but when we find them there is no possible way to do them. It's totally out of our hands and we are being penalized for it.

That sucks! I'm going to Manatee Tech in Bradenton and its not too bad. I've been in LTC's mostly but we are starting to get into hospitals. Its been instructors preference too... I'm actually going to MTI because I had heard negative things about Erwin sorry! Hopefully you are close to graduation and won't have to deal with it much longer!
