  1. Any other LPNs living in the city? I have recently relocated and am curious to know more about what to expect in the nursing field in Boston. I'm noticing a lot of LTC jobs outside of the city not reachable for someone who relies on the T. I'm a rather new nurse with 1 year LTC/Rehab as an LPN and 1 year CNA with a HHC company, and 2 more years in health insurance claims. Is it looking bad for me here? lol I would appreciate any tips you can give me! Also, any info regarding reasonably priced schools in the area that offer transition programs would be greatly appreciated!
  2. My instructor is the most negative nasty woman I've ever met in my life. The clinical site I am at is a 1 star facility, and I have been there for THREE rotations. They are supposed to switch us around, but apparently somebody got lazy. I am so beyond annoyed at the situation. I found a procedure to do last week and I couldn't even perform it because the facility didn't have the kit to do it! It's ridiculous. They tell us we need 1 procedure a week, but when we find them there is no possible way to do them. It's totally out of our hands and we are being penalized for it.
  3. I'm so completely over how my school treats their students. It isn't even worth it to elaborate because I wouldn't put it past them to be searching on this board for reasons to reprimand us. I have been boiling inside since like 4 months into the program and it hasn't stopped yet. I am going to need some serious psychiatric help after this. Anyone still working with CNAs on their med/surg clinical rotation? At a nursing home? Please tell me I'm not the only one not learning anything.
  4. i cant say for sure what the clinical sites will be, they change. i know the VA is a pretty consistent site and its a good one, but the others definitely dont measure up to that. especially in geriatric clinicals. i find that the it's not really fair to the students who get picked for the "crappier" clinical sites because they don't get the experience the other students do. you dont get a choice of anything in this program. you basically have to build your life around the program. it seems like a downfall but the program is so fast pased you HAVE to. you cant be going out all night and partying, you literally need to study EVERY DAY. but in my opinion that will just make you into a better nurse. clinicals usually start around 6:45-7 AM. first round of clinicals is like 2 weeks straight. the next round you only have to go 1 or 2 days a week and from what i understand (havent gotten this far into the program yet) the rest of your clinicals will be like 3 days a week and youll be in the class those other days. class sizes are pretty big. mine started at like 68, but people drop out and fail out frequently. like i said you must be willing to give this your all. we are down to below 60 now and it has only been 3 months. i dont have a study guide i just took the test, but they do have a learning center at the school that will work with you on your problem areas.. i suggest you call or go in and talk to bari labarbara. she will give you all the information you need. be prepared to study study study if you go here, dont waste your time and money! good luck.
  5. Erwin nurses are known everywhere they go. If you have the opportunity go there. Its tough and the instructors are strict but if you are there to learn and not to socialize you will do fine. I am currently an LPN student there and I really enjoy the class. The only down side is that we don't get very good clinical sites. But if your goal is to get your LPN and transition at HCC, Erwin is the only way to go. Also, you can check into PHCC, more credits from your LPN course transfer over. But I have to warn you be prepared to study. If you have to work make sure it's part time and not too late at night!
