Erickson's Stages...HELP!

Published

I am working on a case study and need to talk about what developmental stage my client should be in and then what stage they have either regressed to or fixated at......My client should be in Intimacy v. isolation but she has very autistic thinking, she is narcisstic, feels she can not live without her husband

I believe that she is either regressed to trust v. mistrust or autonomy v. same and doubt but i dont know for sure and i cant find any information about regressing back to previous stages....any insight would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

what you'll have to do is assess your patient against erikson's scale and discuss why you feel the patient fits one level as opposed to another and why. that's the purpose of doing the paper.

I believe that she is either regressed to trust v. mistrust

The not being able to be without her husband leads all the back to trust vs mistrust. So I believe you're on the right track.

Huh. That almost sounds like an assignment more appropriate for a psychology student than a nursing student. (But I'm only a first year, so what do I know.. ;) )

Just based on what info you've described and just based right off the top of my head, I'd say trust vs. mistrust is probably heading in the right direction. Hard to say, though, I would think, without having exhaustive information on the individual in question.

Ya know...as long as we're talking about it...I can't tell you how many times this semester, from reading our textbook, that I'm beginning to feel that RNs are expected to all but take on the role of an actual psychologist. I mean, sometimes it almost feels like we're expected to go beyond our actual scope of practice and nearly begin diagnosing patients and offering them counseling. I know that's not how it really works, of course, but I do get that impression sometimes from our Fundamentals book.

*Looks at your name* Of course, I'm sure you're probably just ecstatic about all of this. :p

LOL!! I greatly enjoy the social sciences.

I do understand what you mean... regardless of what speciality you decide to go in, you will use psych/mental health abilities and you will be expected to be able to address the needs of clients psychosocially.

Sometimes we know just enough to be dangerous! :lol2:
