I am having some psych issues and can't get into my old psychiatrist till next week. My husband wanted me to go to the ER, but I told him I don't really know what they will do for me there. Does anyone know? Would it even be worth it?
Thanks

They might be able to have a service do an eval?? CAn you go to an ER with a psych ward where they might have a psychiatrist on call???
How about calling your physchiatrist and telling them what's going on and how bad you're feeling? Maybe they can refer you to someone else?
Sorry things are rough right now.

Having worked in a psych ED, I recommend that you go to the ER. If your husband is saying he thinks you should then he is probably seeing your problems more clearly than you are.
The ED docs often can help you out until you can see your regular doc.

Can you speak to your primary care physician, they may be able to make a suggestion to best suit your personal needs? I would also take the other suggestion about talking to your physchiatrist and explain what is going on, and perhaps they too can make a suggestion to fit your personal needs :).
I am sorry that you are feeling down, and hope you are feeling sunny soon! And please, if you feel that you are to do harm to yourself or others...get help right away in the ER (but it is not limited to that drastic of a case...so listen to yourself and your "red flags" (as I call them)...if you feel you really need emergent help, get it...almost 100% of the time it is the right thing to do!!!).
Good luck to you...and sending some sunny thoughts and hopes your way :)

i'd definitely try calling your psych or pcp. when pts come into our er we call the psych asssessor (a psych nurse) and he/she comes and does an eval. if they determine the pt's a threat to himself/others, or needs inpatient treatment, then the pt is transferred to either the psych unit (adults only) or another facility (for peds).
i'm sure it's different where you're at. each facility has it's own way of handling psych issues and the treatment depends on their resources and what the actual complaint is.
good luck. :icon_hug:

ER might be able to help. Is it a med change issue? Something the ER/ED doc can actually do? If writing an Rx will help they probably can help you.
If I were you I would start with your psych. Call and push the heck out of the receptionist until you can at least speak with your doc on the phone.
I'll try calling my psych again. Really, it is just restarting a med that I went off of (I know, I know). Thanks for the replies!
