Hey I am kind of in the same boat. I am wanting a job in a local ER. It is the regions second hand hospital, but still very busy. I have completed the majority of my clinicals in the ER and my preceptorship is in the ER. BUT It is a very scary place to start. I was a CNA at 16, a LPN at 22, and soon to be ASN RN in May. This hospital does not offer a menitor program, but I have found the GOOD nurses and follow their lead instead of the BAD nurses.
I started in the ED 5 years ago and have never looked back. I love it and could not imagine working anywhere else. I worked as a tech in ICU as a student and really had my heart set on doing that but an instructor had other plans for me. It is VERY overwhelming at first, you have to know a little bit about everything. The key is to know when you are in over your head and ask for help.
I now do agency on the side and get put in all kinds of different units, the ED is still my favorite.

Hello, I am graduating in May and I was offered a job in a children's hospital ER. I am not sure if I should accept the position as I fear it might be too hard for me. Do you think I can jump straight into it and learn e/t I need to know on the job? It is a level 1 trauma center of a pretty big childrens hospital. Any advice?
