ER Doctor

Nurses General Nursing

So yesterday I was not feeling well. All kinds of flu like symptoms but I also had an MRI in the morning and when I called my doctors office they referred me to the hospital to make sure I was not having a reaction to the dye I was given at the MRI. I didnt go right away because I figured I was fine.

So finally getting some sleep I was awoken around 2am with uncontrolable shaking, teeth chattering, could barely stand. So my step dad brought me to the ER.

The nurse was nice but the doctor pretty much laughed about my symptoms. He was saying I just had the flu and I needed rest. So he did all his testing, the nurse gave me an IV and then some pain meds. I have been sick before but never this sick.

Its so annoying when you feel terriable and just because a doctor has seen it more then once recently he thinks it funny that I am there. So now im resting, doing all the flu things to get rid of it.

So there is rant about that ER Doctor.

Common bug or not...i didnt just have the chills, shaking uncontrolably and was advised to go to the E.R. I wouldn't have gone if I knew it was only the flu. I was treated for dehydration and they knew I had to have an eye kept on my symptoms because of the stomach pains, shaking, fatigue..I have a history of Kidney Infections and I am currently being tested for MS.

Aside from all my health issues.. I had a da*n good reason to be there. So sorry if they see people with common symptoms but I did not have your average fever with some sickness!

Another thing.. I dont care if they see 100 people with a flu symptoms, they should treat the patients with a little more respect then what I was given..made out like I was the jerk for being there.

Shame on that doctor and anyone who agreed with his bed side manners.:nono:

Easy there. No one was agreeing with the bedside manner. Canoehead was trying to give you some perspective. It sounds like you were treated competently, albeit insensitively, with your medical history in mind.

And it did turn out after all that you did have "your average fever with some sickness". Be glad for that, especially given your health history.

But you are not listening to reason. You just want everyone to say "Yeah!! The ER stinks!! That doctor is evil. I bet he eats puppies for breakfast!!" and are wagging your virtual finger at those of us who slog through the same thing day after day. Everyone feels like they are sickest person who has been sick in the long and arduous history of mankind and get all po'ed when the staff doesn't step and fetch for them with the kind and fuzzy demeanor that personifies "conceirge healthcare". Like I tell patients who have a sense of humor, "The sommelier is out sick today, so you are going to have to live with plastic cups of juice with the foil on top and some lorna doones... even though I hear that they serve an excellently vintaged cabernet on the 7th floor..."

Get well soon,

I've been to the ER on the advice of my PCP before and the doc said to my face "You're not sick." I was, and the CXR showed pneumonia. I said to the doc "told ya so" and he smiled. I didn't get any of the amenities, blankets, IVs, soothing nurses (LOL), but I didn't connipt over their lack of caring. They had a job to do, and my minor infection was the least of the worries in the ER that night. People say insensitive things and it's nice to give them the benefit of the doubt.
