Just curious about what nurses do for pt's with epidurals. Do you give them foleys or straight cath them? One place I was everyone with an epidural got a foley and this new place they straight cath. What is best practice?

We use to straight cath. Thank goodness they place foley's now. I'd rather risk infection once instead of several times with a long labor.

same here. I didn't realize there were people that COULD walk with an epidural running??

We have the patient void prior to epidural placement and it is dosed at that time. We don't having running epidurals.

The patients can walk as the epidural starts to wear off. We try to have them void Q2H.

Otherwise, straight cath as delivery nears.

The only foley's placed are for cesareans.
