Epic Need Help

Howdy, new to this site. Been nursing for a long time, but..................................

I have a new job that uses the Epic Health Connect System. We had orientation but looking at my notes I cannot find anything on how to do:

An admit

A discharge

The medication requisition form

This program seems to have a lot of steps. Can you guys help me out? Please make it simple like:

*

Create patient list

*

etc

*

To those that took their time to help me with this long process, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did paper charting before and this Epic system is quite involved, [HELP!]

I have been an Epic Clin Doc builder for several years.

Your institution should have how to guides and step by step tip sheets. Try to track down your nurse educator or ask a coworker who is still going to class if they can get you a copy. Most Epic GoLives also include self training modules online. However for admitting, discharge, and meds those process vary from one to the next so it would be best to try and reach out to ask for reinforcement. Don't be shy, there should a team of trainers who are wanting to help.

Thank you for responding. I did not mention that this is my first travel assignment. The orientation was shorter than usual and there was no cheat sheet given other than the notes we took.

With this Epic system, to me it seems that for example the "ticket to ride" has many steps, so in general, seems a bit more complicated.

As a traveler, one must be more on the independent side so I just want to cover my bases. Only one night of orientation was given and unfortunately there were no admits or discharges.

Are there any teaching websites that you know of?

i understand there are different versions of Epic but if you can still just give me the basics of whatever program you instruct I perhaps can figure it out. Again thanks!

You can do an admit or a discharge with the Navigator, which you will find on the left side bar down toward the bottom. The way I do it is I work my way down through the navigator and when it's complete, I go to "req [uired] docs", which you should be able to find on the bottom window of your main page and then complete whatever may have been missed.

As for ticket to ride, you should have a button on your window that says just that. "Ticket to ride". I just click on it from within that patient's chart, and go down to the bottom window, right click and hit print.

I create my patient list by going to "My Unit" on the upper left part of the screen and then simply finding my patients, right clicking and selecting "treatment team" and adding myself, my shift time and my ascom phone number. You can also just right click and select "Assign me" but then that won't add your other info (shift, phone #).

Hope that helped a little.
