Is there any nurse life care planner out there who is successful in their business? 2. How did you build your business? How much do you charge your clients? And did you obtain a formal education before starting?

I'm thinking of doing it but first I would like to hear from others who have done it first.

Thank you in advance for your replies.

ABSOLUTELY! Check out the American Association of Nurse Life Care Planners (AANLCP.org) and you will find 100s of successful nurse life care planners, including me. Many of us came from a case management or legal nurse consultant background. Others came from rehabilitation services background. Building a business of any kind takes time so don't expect things to happen overnight. You must be diligent in getting the word out and you must have an excellent work product, good communication skills, and work well under pressure.

I can't discuss charges in a public forum lest it be considered price setting, but the legal nurse consulting industry and life care planning industry have similar fees. Most are in excess of $100 an hour.

As for education, there are two programs that are specifically for nurses going in to Life Care Planning. One is with FIG Services and the other with Kelynco. There are other life care planning courses out there, but these two specifically build on the nursing process and make life care planning into an extension of what you already know. I have certifications in two associations, one nursing, and one non-nursing and I have to say the nursing course and association speak directly to me while the other includes many things that are not relevant to me.

Good luck on your new endeavor! I wish you well and am excited for you!
