ENPC

Published

Hi all! I am not sure where the best place to post this so I will start here. I am a recent new grad who has been working on a Med-Surg floor for almost 1 year. Recently my director mentioned having me take an ENPC course next month. I am totally excited but this only the second time I have heard of this course can anyone offer me some insight on what this class is like? It's a two day class. Thanks so much!

Specializes in Critical Care, ED, Cath lab, CTPAC,Trauma.

ENPC is the assessment of the child with an emphasis on early detection and intervention. Although the word emergency is there and it is given by the ENA (Emergency Nurses Association)......this is alll about the assessment of the child and their unique presentations when in distress.......for example....by the time a child drops their SPO2 these children are going to code. It teaches you all about the unique assessment skills that are particular to children.

Anyone who cares for children would benefit from this course....it's all about intervention early to keep them from coding. PALS focuses on the code.

While TNCC is all about Trauma, stabilization, immobilization....it is also all about mechanism of injury, vitals organs involved, and the care /treatment/nutrition of the trauma patient.....and collateral damage caused by massive trauma If you care for Trauma patients again......you will find this course informative and worth your while.

For all the classes and certifications that I have taken over a 34 year career I feel these were the most applicable to practical practice and bedside care.

Specializes in being a Credible Source.

I also found them to be very practical and informative... lots of bullet lists, tables, etc.

Well worth taking and regularly reviewing.

Specializes in PICU, NICU, L&D, Public Health, Hospice.

It sounds to me like you have well developed technical and critical thinking skills and your management wants to expand your value to them (it is also valuable to you).

Work with your support to schedule you first certification as the easiest achievable...perhaps PALS or ACLS. Build you goals after that.

Keep learning and loving your work, there is ALWAYS something new!
