When I saw this thread I thought of the cardiac surgeon whose patients I once cared for here in Los Angeles. Googled and found Dr. Poa is there. I imagine the heart program is excellent.
It is a beautiful part of the country. A physicians assistant friend who worked there fror a couple months said people are friendly. She liked the nurses. Sorry, I don't know the pay but the have a contract with CNA. It is not far from Sacramento and not high in the mountains so the temperature is probably mild winters and hot summers.
I've only been there once for two days so could be wrong.

Thank you very much Space Nurse. Greatly appreciate your input.
Googled this link. The pay seems low for Northern California. Perhaps housing costs are lower there too.

Don't know how long ago you posted or if you are at ENloe yet. Run do not walk away from this facility. Enloe is by far the worst place I have ever been. Many will back this up.
No only is Enloe in the mids of a medical and management crisis but the underlying problems which have never really surfaced well in the public sector here are insurmontable anytime in the near future. Mind you that is not to say the public is not aware there is a problem here they just do not know that is not the only problem and how pervasive it is and exactly how it effect the patient. I have directed my own family to avoid ENloe at all cost. In an emergency my daugher went to a nearby hospital in another town.
Nurses are worked like they are machines.
Chico is a very desirable community to live it. With that said the cost of housing right now is 65% over priced for the incomes realized in this community.
I am under orders to project ENloe in only a positve light. To improve its public image when I tallk to people in the community. Sorry cant do that. They tarnished their own immage and it is not one that deserves to be viewed in any favorable fashion.
I can not begin to list the problems here. Just keep in mind if you are flesh and blood and not a machine that can go at max speed and max efficiency constantly sstay away. Nurses are leaving.

Hmmmm, I've not heard of this crisis and I live in Northern Ca not too far from Chico and have nurse friends who work there. Guess I need to do some checking.
Funny, my dd got hit in the face with a softball last year in a town midway between Chico and Red Bluff and I was told by a woman there to NOT take my dd to Red Bluff's St. Elizabeth because it was a terrible hospital. Told to take her to Enloe instead.
I took her to St. E's . .. I was born in Red Bluff and have friends who work there and both my grandparents have been there many times and also my dad.
I think sometimes people complain about the hospital I work in - and I am confident we are a good hospital.
As to Chico as a place to live - I loved it when I attended Chico State. Bidwell Park is a huge asset. There are lots of lovely old homes. I rode my bike everywhere. And there are many things to do as it is a college town. I'm sure the cost of living is high and housing costs are up . . they are way up even here in this little podunk town I live in . . average home, regular old ranch-style homes are selling for over $400,000! That is just nuts.
