Hi I´m a mexican nurse. Last october I passed the Nclex and I received a license from New Mexico. Before that, I had taken the Toefl iBT, but I didn´t get the required points in the speaking section. For what I´ve heard, I can also take the IELTS.
NM doesn´t require any english test to apply for a license, but since I´m not an US citizen I have to get a working visa. Can you please give me some orientation about the process I need to follow, and also does any of you know what of the 2 types of IELTS I need to take?
thanks!:icon_roll

Welcome to the site
Although you do not need English exams for BON you do need it for visa screen certificate. (all info can be found on http://www.cgfns.org) IELTS or TOEFL is accepted and a bit has been written on here on English exams suggest a search. Also retrogression is in progress so I think the only visa available is TN and you will need a job offer and visa screen certificate before you get it.

The only visa that is available for you is the Nafta TN Visa and that requires that you pass the full series of either the TOEFL iBT or the IELTS to be able to meet the requirements for the Visa Screen Certificate. You cannot apply for the visa without having that as well as a job offer in hand.
Depending on where you are in Mexico, you either will need to go thru the US Embassy there in most areas to get the visa which is different from the requirements for those from Canada.
There is only one type of IELTS that you need and that is the Academic form with the speaking section. That is all that you need to pass.

Hi there,
If I'm a Canadian citizen originally came from a non-speaking country, do I need to write the IELTS exam?? -what is the academic form with the speaking section? Could you please suggest what kind of of study material is the best in preparing for this exam?
Thanks so much

Whether or not you need to write the exam is dependent 100% on where you attended nursing school. If you did it in Canada and not in Quebec Province, then the exam is waived for you.
If you do need to write the exam, then you must use the academic form of the IELTS and not the general form. There are only two choices and you need the academic branch to have it accepted.
Just use the search engine that we have here and put IELTS in it and you will come up with many threads on this topic as well as what to prepare for. What your skill level is in English will determine what you will need to do to prepare. You have not listed where you were born or trained, so hard to give you any real information based on your situation.
Citizenship has nothing to do with the language requirements, but schooling does 100%.
