Just passed UExcel College Writing today with an A
I wanted to share this, since it's a good option for someone like me who has credits from other humanities courses, but still needed those 3 for College Writing. EC Engl Comp gives you 6 credits but I heard it's a lot more involved than UExcel CW, not to mention $ difference (only $85.00 for UExcel plus optional $30.00 for access to practice site - not bad for 3 credits)
Thanks Stevefl!! - heard about it here first, from one of your posts :)

This looks like a good option for people starting out with distance ed.

You're welcome CMLPN.
I got a D on the EC English test and had to wait over 45 days to find that out, and a B on the UEXCEL test after studying a week. That and paid a whole lot less money.

I am studying Uexcel college writing right now. It seems ok but I have been putting much into either. I have been studying for Nursing theroy health saftey which seems to be a review for me. Thanks for the inspiration towards college writing!
You can do it, ahill1008!!
Keep working at it... and if you can (if you haven't yet) pay the $30 for the "My Access Writing". I believe practice is very helpful for this course and this tool gives you instant feedback on things that need improvement, and it uses the same grading system which will be used during the "real test". So, you kinda know which areas you need to focus on before you go in for the test.
CMLPN-
Thank you for the encouragement! Yes I paid the $30 for MYACCESS. I messed around with it for a little bit. I am going to start this week and focus much more on the course. How long did it take you to study for the college writing? Have you ever done college writing course before?

It took me about 2 weeks. I have a degree in Marketing and Advertising, so I've taken other types of writing classes. I also studied linguistics many, many years ago. I'm sure all that counted on my favor. I skimmed the St.Martin's Guide... focusing on things I knew I had to review, such as MLA rules. Also took that time to browse through some of the writing samples they have on that book to review styles and fluidity of writing. I spent more time on MYACCESS writing than anything else - wrote about 8 or 10 essays - and my level of proficiency shown on the site corresponded to the grade I got on the actual test.
Also, the samples on the UExcel study guide were true to the types of prompts I got on the test.
Good luck!!! Go in with confidence that you'll do great!!

Hi, CMLPNnowRN:
Thanks for all posts and efforts to help others. I just got myaccess holistic score after submitting my essay there. But have no idea about how this score would be, like close to what kind of score in UEXCEL College Writing. My access also gives out scores such like, below proficient, proficient and adv. proficient. Then it won't say what it could be in UEXCEL College Writing exam. Would you provide some information on this? It would be greatly appreciated if any one else can help on this also.
