Eng 101

Published

I am looking for some advice here. Do you think it's better/easier to take it online or in the classroom? Has anybody taken ENG 101 with Rio online and how was it? Did you have to take midterm and final in the classroom or not? English is my second language and I am more terrified of taking this class then I was of algebra and BIO201. I am finishing this two in a couple of days and so far it's going very well.

Thank you!

English at Rio was easy for me. It was just essays and a few multiple choice quizzes. I got a B and I always did my papers the day they were due. I don't recommend doing that if you have a hard time with English. are you taking the other two classes at Rio? How is the algebra going? Thats my biggest fear! ALgebra....EWWWW

I am taking the other two classes at Glendale CC, algebra at GCC North. Both are in class. So far, I have 90% in algebra, not so hard after all. I will have a B in BIO 201. So, you didn't have midterm and final at Rio? How long were your essays?

I took BIO 156 with them this past summer and we had midterm and final. It was so stresful for me because it was a short summer session and I was taking MAT092 too...working on top of that. I managed to get a B in BIO though, but, it was a lot of work.

I already registered for ENG101 at Glendale, but I was thinking if it's easier to take it online.

I think the final was an essay, and then maybe a multiple choice test. Im sorry I cannot remember, but it was NOT hard. PM and tell who your algebra teacher is......Please and thank you

If english is your second language, i would suggest you take it in person. I think you will get more out of it.

I am currently taking ENG101 at Rio Salado as well. You don't have to go to a testing center for this class. All you do is answer multiple choice questions, write about 5 full-length essays and do a couple of assignments. Just one quiz/essay/assignment per week for 14 weeks. English is my third language and I am taking this class with A&PI and CHM130 (+lab), also online. I currently have 94% in the class and am in week 9. I don't see why you'd take this class in person. At Rio you can correspond with your instructor via e-mail, so you do have one-on-one time if you want it. However, you have to be self-disciplined and turn in your assignments on time!

I totally agree with this. The Rio online class might be easier, but you'd probably get more out of an in-person class. I took a few Rio online classes for my prereqs and found them all to be extremely easy and not challenging in the least ..... sure it was nice to knock them out, but I learned nothing in the mean time, therefore I didn't get much out of it. So if you want to get anything out of it, then I would do like this poster said and take it in person.

Good luck to you!

hello.

i took eng 101 and 102 both online and home, and never had to go down to the school for anything, i took it through gcc. i know when i took my psych online through rio i had to go take a final at their testing center. eng 101 and 102 with instructor schwan was awesome, lots of papers ofcourse but a breeze. good luck!

I will probably take ENG with Rio. Just love the idea that I will not have to go to school after working 10hrs.

Thank you all.
