Hi everyone! i would just like to ask everybody's opinion about taking up an EMT course since it is health-related. does it give me an advantage over other RN's? As far as i know also EMT's are mostly volunteers so money-wise i cant really get much out of it?
And also can anybody share info, experiences, anything that can help me decide in taking up an EMT course.
thanks!:nuke:
i'm not that sure if they still accept high school grads. but technically, you can enroll in an EMT class if you're a high school grad because it's not a post grad course. it's just like a vocational program. I'm just not that sure about LSTI's policy. better call them to confrim. You can find their number here... PSEMT - Philippine Society of Emergency Medical Technicians
i like this thread, learned a lot from it.
actually i was planning to take this EMT training before to have added skills as a nurse, but as i read through, i found that they have this EMT-B (basic) and EMT-D (defibrillator), which im still thinking if i need to take them if i'm already an er nurse.. I'm curious as to what new knowledge can I obtain from the training.

it depends on your long term plan. if you want to stay in the hospital ER, then no need to take EMT. however, if you plan to work in the pre-hospital setting like the ambulance service or as a company safety officer, then i'm sure you'll be able to get some new tricks from the course.
hi everyone...does anyone know or had taken the EMS course from TESDA? Is it in anyway much better from other EMT trainings? Coz of what Ive heard all of these EMT trainings in the Philippines are seeking the accreditation from TESDA...
it's not that they are better, but eventually, the government will be pushing for TESDA certified EMTs. just like with PRC, if you are a BSN, you have to take the board in order to be recognized to practice. EMT is not a post-graduate course... sorry to those who believe that it is. it is actually a vocational course... hence.... it is under TESDA.
