EMT-B to CNA

Published

Hi all and thanks for having me. I am about to earn my EMT-B cert in Florida. I've actually enjoyed both the ambulatory and the hospital clinicals and would like to work in a hospital while pursuing paramedic training. Will the skill set learned as an EMT student be sufficient to prepare me for the CNA cert exam. I'm sure some studying is in order, but would the coursework be redundant/unnecessary? Thanks!

Congratulations on your EMT-B Certification! And good luck on your licensing exam! My son is an EMT-B for Escambia EMS Auxilliary and will also continue the Paramedic route. If you need EVOC and it's not offered in your area drop me a private message and I'll pass along the information where my son took it in Ruskin, FL.

I would think that CNA requirements would be different than that of an EMT. Have you thought about working in an ER? Some areas of hospitals besides ER's also hire EMT's. Good luck!

It differs because some exam requires for you to understand some practical bed-side activites that you will need to assist on patients. If your given the option to take the exam and not attend any class due to your EMT-B; then I would reccommend that you look at CNA videos on YouTube to get a general knowlegde.
