EMS Radio Reports

Hi all,

Just curious as to who receives EMS radio reports at your facilities. At the hospital I work in, the triage nurse is responsible for communicating with the EMS units but I've heard of other hospitals assigning this to the charge nurse or even another nurse. What's the process like at your hospital?

"somewhat" designated tech (medic - me). Its supposed to be an assignment....but you know.

100 bed ED with 100k visits. I'll take all calls including transfers, and assign rooms, charge has final authority and does approx 20% of the work anyhow, overstaffing RNs/hall beds/assigning RNs to pick up traumas and medical resus's etc.

8 bed emerg. 3 staff on days, 2 on night, 1MD. We all listen for the radio to go off. We usually offload right onto a stretcher. We also keep the trauma room open and dont put any non critical pts in there (maybe the odd pt as long as it's a quick issue).

Monitor tech who is a paramedic answers the calls and figures out which room they'll go to. Nurse or doc can technically do it, but the tech is always right there, so it's easiest.

We have a "nurse first" who sits at the ED entrence who holds the radio and assigns room and charge nurse does it as well

40 Bed ER. Charge Nurse normally answers unless away from the desk. Then any nurse can answer. We always do room assignment upon arrival unless very, critically ill then a room is assigned over the radio. Our system works well for us.
