Hi all :) I'm actually a first semester nursing student sneaking behind the bushes and reading your posts
I was wondering what the hospitals are offering you as an employment package? Are any of them offering to pay off your student loans or giving sign on bonuses? I'm in the position where I could take $1600 a semester from a local hospital NOW if I wanted to and that would really help my credit card debt I'm in from a lack of financial aid. However, I'm afraid to get tied down this early in the game. I'd really like to move to the Dallas area (Texas) but it's hard trying to find out if they offer the same thing right now without actually working for them... no one broadcasts these things on their website, including the local hospital I'm writing about now. It's just something you kind of find out about from living in the area. Soooooo, I guess what I'm getting at is could I wait for an employment offer that could help pay for my expenses from nursing school when I graduate, or is that unrealistic?

It depends on where you go. The county hospital I will be working at has an extern program where they give you a monthly stipend while in school and when you grad you work a certain amount of time w/ them (1-2 yrs). Other hospitals have sign on bonuses or pay off your school loans. You need to contact teh hospitals in your area and find out whats available--realize you may have to sign some contracts and your butt is theirs if you take money from them (or you will have to pay them back). GL! :)
