Can someone please tell me about this school. Im in Hawaii and I am seriously thinking of going there. Is it all that its hyped to be? I don't care about tuition costs, are there any students in this forum that attend Emory? If so, I would greatly appreciate a response, thanks...:)

Emory does have a solid reputation for it's nursing school. I live in Atlanta and attend Georgia State University nursing school. I've heard that Emory prepares their students for post-graduate work and many go on to pursue masters and doctorates. I seriously considered applying to Emory until I received an email back from someone in their financial aid department notifying me that the average student leaves with a debt of at least $20K. However, since you state that money isn't a factor then this is not an issue for you. However, since I am starting a second career and plan on going on to grad school after I graduate, I wasn't about to incur $20K of debt for an undergraduate nursing degree. Their program is two years in length. If you are interested in graduate school, they also have an option where you can apply for undergraduate and grad school at the same time. If accepted, you complete your bachelors then move directly into taking graduate classes. All in all, it's a good school. Since it is private and very expensive, I don't think they have a long waiting list so if you have the academic credentials you'll probably get in. Good luck.

My boyfriend is a professor at Emory. It's a great school. It is VERY expensive. It's not in a great part of town as far as crime goes but the school is awesome. I used to live in Hawaii and moved to Atlanta. You'll love Emory. It's got a diverse cultural base (not too many Hawaiians though), a great medical reputation, and has promise for a career afterward right at Emory Hospital.

You're welcome to PM me if you'd like more info.

Thanks for the input. I think I have a decent chance of getting in (almost 4.0 GPA and I can claim residency because my father lives in GA). I am looking at graduate school (anesthesia), but we'll see. My other option for school would be to go to the Univ. of Hawaii but I kind of want to go away and experience something else (I've been on this rock my whole life, I haven't even seen snow before :bluecry1: ).

Maggie - does your boyfriend work in the Nursing dept? I am flying down to GA and will be visiting a few schools (Emory, MCG, and GA Baptist).

Blee, he's a scientist. He does research. If I were you, I'd take a serious look at MCG, for PA school as well. You can't go wrong at either school. You'll probably get in but, you need to know, Emory is private so your father's residency in GA won't help you defer cost.

If you've never been away from Hawaii, GA is a great place to come! It's not too cold it's TOTALLY different than the west coast or Hawaii and, you'll definitely go back to Hawaii with a new appreciation for the food you have grown up with. I lived in HI for 9 years. My husband was from Pearl City. My daughter is Hapa. I miss it but, I won't go back. Too expensive, my daughter has been "Mainlandized", and I grew up here, in the south. There are other schools you should consider-don't narrow your search to GA schools if money isn't an issue. If you want to stay in the south, look at Duke, UNC, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, etc. There are a few EXCELLENT schools worth looking at. PM me and I'd be happy to help. It may cost you a some crack seed LOL

Oh yah, I forgot, it'll help me with MCG though :) .

I kinda want to stay in GA because I have family there. I''ll probably end up living with my dad...

So I take it MCG has a reputable program also? I don't see much people talking about it so I'm not sure. I primarily chose those schools because UH's pre-req classes are most similar to those GA programs.

I have several friends that graduated from the Medical University of GA. It's not Harvard or even Duke, but it has a good reputation.
