Specialties Emergency
Published Apr 29, 2002
The hospital that I work in doesn't offer any "specialty" pay in the ER. I'm curious to hear if other states or areas of the country do offer added pay to certain specialty areas.

Zudy,
It does annoy me when they pay ICU extra - yet I have to leave my unit (and my patients and my charge duties) to go to the ICUs to give all the chemo, access all the ports, explain ampho-B and ganglicyclovir protocols and trouble shoot, though I am a lowly MS nurse.
I repeat, we are all specialists in our own right!!!!!!
Be aware the I have the utmost respect for ICU/ER nurses. But all this emphasis on extra pay for some "specialities" distracts from the fact that all nurses should be paid better, and we all should help each other out with our special skills. This extra pay for some people does lead to some divisiveness-that is not good for anyone If we get extra pay for certs or degrees, well that is nice. But I am certified, because I believe in what I do, not to get extra pay (But I won't refuse it if it comes my way)
