Emergency Drills

Ok my peeps, I need some help...

In the event of an evacuation (planned or not), I have prepared a list of the kids and staff that am aware of, who may have issues egressing the (multi story) building. This list is shared with admin via Google docs. No protected info, just whether or not they are on crutches or in a w/c.

We evacuate out multiple doors and I am with the incident command team. This week I had multiple people I needed to ensure had reached their homeroom check in, and as planned, used the walki-talki to confirm Joe Schmoe was with his HR teacher.

The person who runs our emergency planning pulled me aside (in all seriousness) and asked me if it was ok to be using the kids names over the radio????

I think I am going to lose my ever loving mind! How ELSE would we quickly confirm this?? No protected info AT ALL is shared, just the name and homeroom, no more than would be shared if the principal was looking for a kiddo who was not where they are supposed to be.

What do the rest of you do? How do you track kids who may have egress (especially from a multi level building) issues?

21 days 20 with kids but who is counting!

Elementary school - when we have drills we use first names and last names if needed over the walkies - no info is given just that Teacher X is missing John and jane. The person who has them will respond with John and Jane are with Teacher Y.

I'm so tired of stupid stuff...don't talk to seniors...don't check on kids by name...

I'm so over it...

We use student names over walkie-talkies too. In my opinion, it would kind of defeat the purpose of checking the whereabouts of students without actually being able to say their names..."Attention staff...we're trying to locate a particular child. They're wearing jeans, a blue t-shirt, tennis shoes, and a watch. Have you seen this child?" all staff members with walkie-talkies "Yes. I have about 5 of those students with me. I'm positive one of them is who you're trying to locate..." kind of hard to find a particular child if you're only allowed to use vague descriptions...

This falls under "come on man!". Of course we need to use names to check on a student. let's review the flip side. "I'm sorry Mrs So and So, we are currently trying to find your child but since we aren't allowed to use names it might take awhile. Yes we know there is a fire. So sorry" Ugh

Ha! I love it!

I swear, the closer we get to the end the nuttier it gets.

I had K5 teacher bring the label from cupcakes to me today. She wanted my "professional medical opinion" as to whether her treenut allergy kid could eat them. She'd already ruled out her peanut allergy kid who had her own snack.

On the top of the label in bold it said, "may contain peanuts, treenuts, soy, and wheat."

I'm just glad we have a seasoned medical professional here to save these kids from impending dangers all around them.

4 MORE DAYS.
