OK or NOT OK??
I tried searching online but the opinions run the gamut. This would be for an RN position in a large hospital system.
Thanks!
I am one of those people on the receiving end of those thank-you notes and I am perfectly fine with the e-mailed ones. In fact, they are easier and more convenient for me as I can file them in my electronic folder that contains the info about the hiring process. Since I no longer have paper files of applicants, I have nowhere to file paper thank-you notes.
If you are dealing with a hiring manager who seems very computer literate, then I think a digital thank-you is fine. However, as a previous poster said, it should be a formal note and not just a casual e-mail. For example, it certainly should NOT be written in "computer speak." (e.g. "BTW it was nice 2 c u." etc.)
I have often engaged in on-going online conversations with applicants -- and have done so as a job-seeker myself. When I was interviewing for my current job 11 years ago, I could see that the hiring manager was very computer savy. We wrote several e-mails back and forth throughout the hiring process. I even wrote an essay based on part of our interview and sent it to her.
However ... The electronic communication won't be best in all circumstances. Some hiring managers are not as digitally based. Some prefer the more formal paper system. Sometimes, the delay in making the hiring decision doesn't require much speed in communication, etc. As with other decisions in life, you need to assess the individual situation and tailor your response accordingly.
Is it alright to send a handwritten card PLUS an email to thank them for interviewing you? Or is that too much?
I just want to make sure that a thank you gets there somehow, on time, but I want to be a memorable candidate.
I interviewed today at 2:00, and I just put the cards in the mail box. :)
I was actually told from a recruiter at a large Dallas hospital to ask for the nurse manager's card, then shoot her a thank you note that evening via email. Sending a handwritten note via snail mail may take several days, an email is immediate. It may make the difference if the manager is undecided between two candidates and one sends a lovely thank you letter and the other one does not.
