eligible for 4 year BSN?

Published

hi imma guy and I graduated college last December w/ a Business Administration degree

is it possible to for me to get into the undergraduate 4 year BSN nursing program instead of the accelerated BSN program which is 1 year?

I'm try to finish my prerequisites this fall and next spring and I kinda want to take my time and work at the same time and enjoy it instead of rushing everything into a 1 year accelerated BSN program

so say if i get into the BSN nursing program, could it take me 2 years instead of the normal 4? b/c I've taken a lot of the basic classes like English etc...

I can't seem to find info but every time I look at the universities on it, im asking if a graduate w/ a degree MUST take an accelerated program or could I like apply as a transfer student or w/e it takes

You should speak to an advisor at the school where you plan to attend nursing school.

The answer will vary from school to school. Some traditional BSN programs will admit those who are second degree students and some will indicate that you are only eligible for an accelerated program.

Keep in mind that since you have an undergraduate degree already, you should not expect financial aid for a second undergraduate degree. You would not qualify for any federal aid (Pell grant, federal undergraduate student loans, or undergraduate scholarships that follow federal guidelines, etc).

It's going to vary like the previous posters have said. Lots of places with take you as a transfer. However, if you know you want to do a 2 year program, you can also research direct entry MSN programs.

I'm a second degree student as well. I already have my Bachelor's in Education. Like others said, it really does depend on what school you want to go to. Call or e-mail the nursing department there and they will tell you. I applied to a school that accepts people who already have another degree for their traditional 4 year BSN program. They also have an accelerated BSN program as well. I am doing the traditional program because like you, I want to take my time and work instead of rushing everything in a year and a half.

I started my prerequistes last fall and finished them all this summer. I was just accepted into the nursing program and I have 2 1/2 years left, so it will be 3 1/2 years total for me to finish everything. So it most likely will take you at least 3 years to finish since prerequistes usually take a year and then actual nursing courses are 2-3 years, depending on the school.

Oh and someone above said you won't qualify for any federal financial aid. That is true, but you do qualify for loans as long as you haven't borrowed past the maximum amount. Federal loans are what I'm using to pay for my second degree since I no longer qualify for grants or scholarships.
