Electronics in Nursing School

Published

What does everyone use for school? iPad, tablets, or laptops? I'm really confused on what to get. I want an iPad but at the same time I need a laptop. I want to get some advice or ideas about what everyone's using in school even pre-nursing. What would be best?

I'm leaning towards the laptop but which one?

A good old pen and paper. I never really found a use for a laptop or my ipad in class. Now to write papers I would suggest a laptop that has microsoft office on it but in class I don't think I could type that fast. So I just write.

Sorry probly didn't make it clear enough, I'm not trying to use it in class just for school in general!!!

I would check to see if there are any technology requirements for the nursing program you would like to attend. The nursing program I am starting in January requires a small laptop and an iPod touch prior to the beginning of classes. Of course, I have a desktop computer and an iPad. I had to purchase all new technology!

Agreed. I think if I had a laptop I would probably be surfing the web instead of taking notes or doing anything class related (I see a lot of this happening in class) .. so I stick to the usual. Laptop as far as papers go because all of our papers have to be typed, but as far as anything else that's not required to be typed--pen and paper.

Ok, then I would at least have a laptop with Microsoft Office. Microsoft Office was required for me to write my papers with. I also had to have a flash drive. An ipad would not have worked because I couldn't put a flash drive in it and correct me if I am wrong but I don't think you can put Office on it either. I use my ipad for the internet, to play games, or to read books with. Other than that you need an actual computer.

I use a macbook for everything. I don't even carry paper with me. I don't print power points, just annotate them during lectures. I cannot imagine why my method is so rare. Out of my class of 80ish, I'm pretty much the only one who does this. LOVE being able to search keywords. Makes studying so much easier.

Good day:

While an iPad doesn't have a USB port (for a flash dirve), there are different ways to get files to and from the iPad. There are Microsoft Office equivalents for the iPad as well. An iPad is an actual computer .

Thank you.

I'm really confused lol

I’m still in my prereqs but I used my Galaxy tablet in class instead of bring my books. I still printed power points to do my overall study guides for test and if the rare occasion we would have an open book assignment I would bring my book to class. I have a laptop for papers and portable key board for my tablet if I'm at work and need to study or whatnot.

I have both a laptop and an iPad. I use my iPad during lecture because then I can view and edit PowerPoint lectures in the Notability app which also allows for recording right in the document. I also have the Pages app so that if I'm on campus and only have my iPad, I can begin a document in the Pages app and then e-mail the document to my laptop to be viewed and edited in Microsoft Word.

I also have various apps on my iPad (which are also useful on my iPhone) such as NCLEX reviews, Nursing Central, Micromedex, etc. I find that the possibilities are endless for me.
