I work for a county jail that averages 70 inmates. We have limited space for records and I think I lost my office under all the papers. We want to move to EMR but I don't know which companies to look at. I feel like I am shopping for insurance or something. I am really new to this type of record keeping and need some pointers on what to look for and which companies to research. Any advice?? I live in Montana if location has anything to do with it.

I'm not a techie...but...first question. Does your county already have some type of system in place that they use for business...like SAP for instance. Start there. Most systems already in place can have some custom modules created within that system. They simply must be able to restrict access, so that only medical people can see the patient's records. Building a custom module on an already existing system is less expensive than creating a wholly separate EMR, I THINK. But, as I said, I am not a techie. I worked at a corporation (not correctional) that had a beautiful custom module for SAP created for the nursing staff. It was great. And you could run all kinds of reports on it.

We are looking at CorrecTek, I know your post was from 7 years ago (!) but is there anything we should know prior to purchasing? Any insight is greatly appreciated!!

Ive been using CorrecTek for the past 8 months and it hasn't be the greatest EMR. There's been a lot of problems with the MAR not being user friendly. Labs not showing up before they are due, detox values not populating...i could go on. Not to mention it kicks you off the server all the time and likes to freeze quite a bit. and this is a problem through all of our facilities. i strongly suggest looking at other products.
