Hi guys, this is my first time posting on here; although I have been trolling through the pages for a couple of years. I am an LVN, and have been working in LTC since 2003. I am so excited, I recieved an email from El Centro yesterday that I passed the first part of the entrance requirement for the LVN to RN bridge program. Now, all I have to do is take a 5 days skills check off and review, and hopefully I will get started on my path to being a RN. I am a little nervous about the skills check off, the community I work in is private pay, and we don't do IV's, Extensive wound care, or anything of that nature. We rarley even get a foley catheter. Does anyone know what areas are covered in the skills check-off? IV's NG tubes? Yikes

Hey MdjNurse what school in El Centro is this through? and what are the requirements to be accepted in the transition program. I live in Indio and it's so hard to get into COD.

im sure you have already taken it by now, but for future people
vital signs, physical assessment, sterile dressing change, inserting a foley catheter (sterile), changing iv bags (not iv insertion), ng tube feeding,(medication/insertion), and medications (im and sc injections)
there will be plenty of time to practice, you get three chances to officially check off the skills, and it is all performed on maniquins. she also checks your notetaking ability. i recomended brushing up on youtube videos, bring reference skills books to class, and bring a watch and a stethescope. It is five days now (used to be three).
it will be okay!
to the other commented, el centro college is part of the dcccd (dallas county community college district in texas) nowhere near indiana.
Hey, is this Melodie. This is Misty from class, I sent you a friends request.

Hi mdjnurse-I've got a question....I understand that El Centro require's recent med-surg experience as a pre-req for the bridge program, right? How did you get in with LTC experience? I've got tons of clinical and past LTC experience but no med surg and they dissed me!!! Have the requirements changed recently?
