I was under the impression that the VA offered an educational debt reduction program for new employees. I am a new diploma/associates RN and have been told that this program is only available to RN's with an BSN? Does anyone know anything about this?

Yes, you are correct, the VA does offer a debt reduction program for RN's and that program will pay up to $40,000 in student loans toward a nursing education. If you are currently a BSN and are working for a VAMC, see your Human Resources department for an application. It is very important that you get this application in before you are employed six (6) months. I was never told about the program when I first started, but learned about it at my 5th month. I applied and found out that there is funding and the program is available. Good luck!
By the way, I hear that almost everyone that applies is approved .... are there any other VA nurses out there that can shed some light on this or perhaps have been approved?

Assocation degree RN's can also receive this reduction program ,but If I am correct you recieve $3000 and for every year that the government gives you money, you must in turn give the government two years of employment. ADN nurses receive less money.
