Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi all, I am looking to go to edison for their associates-nursing program, I wanted to know how difficult it is to get accepted into their program. I am looking to apply next summer, so i can complete my pre- reqs. What kind of grades do you need to have? At the moment I have 2 B's in 3 credit classes and 1 B in a one credit class So I have a 3.0 (i am in my first semester still, so i have time to improve my GPA before applying) also How hard is the HESI? Im horrible with math (always have been) is there much of that on their? I am good with medical vocabulary, as I had taken classes for that in high school, always did good on those tests! Any other tips or information about the nursing program at Edison specifically would be AWESOME! I am doing the best I can as a young mother in getting myself into the nursing program and in a good career for my two babies!

What classes did you take so far? I am kind of confused since you say a grade for a 1 credit class and none of the nursing prereqs are one credit. Admission really depends on how many points you get. It factors in prereq gpa, hesi, and amount of classes completed. The lowest points to get into Lee campus for the summer nursing this year was 85 (it is higher in the fall usually). Lee is the most competitive campus. You only have a few classes completed so you just need to get a few As and it will balance out. I have 5 classes completed so far (3.6 gpa) and in the fall I am taking a&p and stats, then I am applying. Feel free to private message me.

Im currently attending St. petersburg college (moving to fort myers next week, which is why im chosing edison) My one credit class was for a required course at my current school "computer information literacy" So far I have taken composition 1, and a social science credit marriage and families (which i believe is not a requirement for edisons program) I am taking psychology, humanities and the second half of my pre-college level math class for summer semester... then that leaves me with anatomy and college level math! So they calculate your GPA based on classes that ONLY go towards the nursing degree?

Yea, that is how most ADN programs are. They only look at pre/coreq gpa and no other classes count. Edison's nursing program prereqs are a&p 1 and stats. The coreqs are a&p 2, microbiology, english comp 1, nutrition, general psychology, human growth and development, and a humanities elective on their list. I went to a prenursing information session and they said you should have 7 classes done before applying or your chances aren't good.

I was going to send you a private message, but it will not let me. Maybe because I just created an account today? no idea, still figuring this site out a bit!

Thanks so much! So the more classes done, the better! I will only have 3 classes done by fall them:/ so hopefully i can get four of them done in the fall! Im so impatient! lol. I took "medical skills" and health science 1 & two in high school, which I absolutely LOVED. only class i ever enjoyed. Im hoping this program is just as good. Have you taken your HESI yet?

Do not rush through them, just focus on doing as good as you can on them so you won't have to retake them. Have you taken biology yet? At edison you need to take a biology class before you can take a&p or microbiology. And I didn't take the HESI yet because I didn't take a&p yet and that is on the test. There seem to be a lot of good study tips on the HESI section of this site from other people who have taken it. We have to take all sections of the hesi besides chemistry and physics.

No i havnt taken a biology class yet, i didnt see it on the course catalog for the nursing program! its so different how they have it set up! im doing my classes online, at my current school i can take anatomy and it does not require anything beside comp for a pre req. So i will most likely take that class at this school before transferring!

Biology isn't on the nursing catalog because it doesn't go toward your nursing degree. You just need to take it because the school requires it as a prereq to take a&p and microbiology. My CC in Jersey also had the same thing so luckily I already took it. I would call Edison and make sure anatomy will transfer as a&p 1, it has a lab so it has to be taken in person.

Yea, i know. The a&p course has a lab at mine to, but it also offers the lab online which would be more convienent... if they will accept it at edison. I tried to get infor but their no help unless i go in, which will have to wait 2 weeks or so until im there. Thank you!
