hey i have question especially to mam suzzane..:)
Does having lots of seminars, certificates, trainings, being a volunteer have an edge to other nurses going to US?? or just have a working experience is enough??
or what should I do to have an edge so that employers will sponsor me???
Oh well, I know there's a retro but I just asked to know what are better things to do while waiting..
My batchmates enroll in different seminars and trainings..

Hello there.
I'm not suzanne but I just wanna give some suggestions.. I believe you have a plan in landing a nursing job in US soon. Most of the US hospital employers do require a nurse to have at least two years of recent/current hospital experience to get into their facility.
With a large number of new nurses in the Philippines now, nurses finds it difficult to get easily hired by Hospitals there even for just a volunteer nurse, I mean, Hospitals there prefers nurses with good scholastic records. That is why alot of average nurses had just resorted to attending crash course, seminars etc to keep them active in their profession.
Three things I would say that would be an edge to you:
1.) Having a current job in a good facility
2.) Impressive scholastic records
3.) Active with continuing nursing education ( Gains confidence )
Not to mention passing the requied exams like ielts, cgfns and the NCLEX-RN
I hop this helps. Godblss you and Goodluck

Actually,I was thinking about this question a few weeks ago..With so many nurses here in Philippines,we really need do something to stand out from the rest..
What I only have right now are good scholastic record from a top ranking school here in PI,good PRC board rating, and NCLEX result..That's about it..I am still not confident to "market" myself with these things yet..Local job employment-well,I am getting almost there..
Erwin, when you say continuing nursing education,do you mean a masteral degree or just nursing seminars/trainings? I am tempted to enroll in a masters program here in Phil but it won't be credited anyway there in US.. It's like everything done here in Phil won't be credited there in US(basic life support trainings,IV trainings,etc..)... So is it wise to do it anyway fort the sake of gaining confidence or just save the money? I wanted to do thee things but then the thought of not being credited holds me back from doing it...
Hi Pink. I am so happy to have learned some of your achievements and credentials you're holding now. I believe you wont have any difficulties in gaining a job offer in USA. You have to gain good experience while you are still in the Philippines, or you can apply for a nursing job in other countries in the meantime while retrgression is still ON.
Attending seminars and short courses would mean that you are active/interested in your profession thus, employers will opt to hire you over the others in any way.
Cheers!!!

Attending seminars will help keeping your knowledge up to date but depends on what sort of course/certificates you are thinking of. Lots of courses may not necessarily be accepted in the US I would think gaining working experience in an area of high demand would be more beneficial

There is a thread that I started on the Philippine Forum for what one can do to created their own work there and actually help others as well.
Look for it on that forum for my suggestions.
Those trainig programs that are offered in your country have no weight here in the US as they are not accepted for anything. They will not make it easier for one to get hired, good for your own knowledge, but not for hiring purposes.
Facilities here want to see work experience, and that alone.
