Hello RNs and hopefully SRNA/CRNAs,

I plan to apply to several CRNA programs this coming year in NC, with ECU being my top choice. I received the ECU admission packet and think I meet the requirements. However, the packet states, "Courses in physiology and chemistry (general chemistry, biochemistry and/or organic/biochemistry required) within five years are highly recommended."

I took these courses in 2016-2019. It does not say "required," but I am worried my application will be overlooked. I have considered retaking some of these courses in the Spring of 2024 and submitting my application around June....but working full-time and trying to retake several classes might be too much for me.

I have all the other application requirements and graduated with a 4.0. I also worked as a Paramedic for several years, even after graduating with my BSN.

Can anyone provide me with some insight into how much emphasis has been placed on courses in the last 5 years? Or how I can increase my chance of getting an interview? Thanks so much!

I took those classes 20 years ago and got an interview. I bombed the interview but my application didn't get overlooked.

Don't leave anything to chance, they asked me specifically during my interview about recent course work, graduate course work and course work I was taking that Summer. Take the classes. Many of them can be taken at community college. Take a graduate level class. Shadow, shadow, shadow. They will not interview you with less than a 300 on the GRE. If you suck at interviews, do mocks. Nice thing about the program is the interview process is where they weed people out, once you're in... your gold.

This is my top choice program as well! My chemistry credits were from 2017-2019 as well, and I don't plan on refreshing them personally. I'm padding my application in other ways - GRE, CCRN, shadowing, leadership experience, special training including CRRT ECMO and fresh hearts, possibly some precepting. I think as a whole picture my old chemistry courses are the least interesting thing about me. Fingers crossed!
