So my friend and I were thinking about a software that can help us do this. One, it would be helpful to the charge. Second, it will make in the oncoming nurses happier. I did a Google such but nothing concrete came up. Anyone using any such software or even an Excel spreadsheet way of doing it?

You're living in a dream world, my friend.
In all fairness, one of the things that bites about doing charge is that when you aren't in charge, it's harder to complain about your assignment. Still possible, of course, but harder.

I think there are too many potential variables...this nurse can't take care of this patient because they are cousins...this nurse is pregnancy so she can't take care of the isolation patient...this patient is technically a low acuity but they really take a huge amount of nursing time...

Thoughtful, but I would never want a computer deciding my team for me. Nor would I want it doing my job either.

I agree, I think the easiest and best way to do assignments is to use your brain, not a computer. Someone will always complain about their assignment no matter what you do.
