I am looking to double up on nursing classes while in the RN-BSN program. I realize that it might be wiser to take certain classes alone and not double up. This thread is for everyone enrolled in the RN-BSN program to discuss which classes are the most/least difficult.

Hello everyone,

I'm getting ready to start at UTA online next month, so I wanted to join this group. I've never posted on this site before, so pardon me if I don't get it right.

Sounds like we all should stick together to help one another as we go through the program since it doesn't seem like there is much support from the school, which is too bad. I appreciate all of the posts I've read so far. I just received my course map today, so I'm trying to decide what to take. I'm thinking Prof Nursing A/B along with one of those gov classes which it seems WE ALL have to take unless you are from TX. I'm from CA. Would love to meet up w/ others in my position so we can help each other along the way.

Welcome to the forum! Just some advice, if you need to take technical writing take it with prof nursing a/b. Those classes are required to take any of the other nursing classes. They are very do able to take together.

I am also from CA and was dreading Texas gov but I did learn some interesting facts...

Thanks for the welcome and your advice. Actually, I don't have to take Tech Writing as I took that in a previous life. Right now I'm wondering about scheduling which days to work and which ones to have off in order to complete the assignments. We have self-scheduling at my job, so I can pretty much do what is best for me. Are the assignments due on any certain day of the week, or is it dependent upon the particular class? I work full time (3 12 hr days/week) which means I have no spare time for class stuff at all on work days. Also, how much time (approx) would I need in advance to complete the assignments? For example, if a paper is due on Sunday, could I do it in just a day or 2, or would I need more? Any info would be helpful.

For most of the classes, discussion board postings were due on Wednesdays, and assignments (more involved than the discussions) had to be posted by Saturday. Some classes will have discussions due on Thursdays and assignments due on Mondays. But..in general... you will have discussions due in the middle to end of the week and assignments due on sat/sun/mon.

I see. thanks. this tells me there is really no good way for me to plan my work schedule. I will just have dive in and see how it goes. I'm getting nervous about how I'm going to do this but just knowing that others, (such as yourself) have done it, helps a lot. I have an urge to postpone my start date in Aug, but I know that thought just comes from fear and the sooner I start, the sooner I'll be done, so I'm going to be strong and just do it.

Just start it!!! Get it over with it. It's pretty annoying and time consuming, but easy. I would recommend working mon, tues, wed....the discussions/quizzes that are due earlier in the week are super easy and you could get them done after work.

You'll want the weekend free to complete the assignments and turn them in Sunday, especially if you tend to procrastinate! :)

BTW, my course map doesn't mention Texas govt....only US History I & II and Poly Sci. Any thoughts? I wonder if it was overlooked.

Thanks for the advice. At the moment I work Fri Sat Sun Mon or some variation on that but I could change to something else. We are required to work 3 weekends a month, however, and I can't change that. I guess I'll just see how it goes.

I don't know why you don't have to take Tex gov. Unless you live in Texas, I can't imagine how you would have taken it before. Sounds like they overlooked it. good for you.

Hmmm ... interesting. Texas government is a Poly Sci class. I think the title is "State and Local Government." You might want to check on that.

I am currently enrolled in Health Assessment. The quizzes are extremely easy (I went ahead and took all 5 of them to get them over with, even though we're on week 2). The only difficult part seems that the subjective/objective data weekly assignments are like care plans when it comes to grading. The coach is very nit-picky taking off big points for minor things. Like not stating the patient has 10 fingers. Anyway...

So far, I've taken Professional Nursing A/B, Older Adults, Health Promotion, and Medical Terminology as an elective. I used my nursing certification (PCCN) as my second elective.

I am coming up on Research, Management, Vulnerable Populations, and Capstone.

I have doubled up throughout the program and haven't encounted a problem yet.

Do you mind ranking the classes that you've taken from easiest to hardest?

I'm getting ready to start classes Aug 13th after receiving my course map a few days ago. I, too, have PCCN certification but my advisor didn't seem to know what that is, which seemed surprising to me. I had to fax a copy of my certificate, letter from ACCN, and my certification card which I am told will be presented to the supervisor for evaluation. Did you have any trouble getting them to accept this?

They had no problem accepting PCCN. Keep in mind that PCCN is a relatively new certification, however, it is on the list of approved certs (and the academic advisors aren't nurses, so I don't know why they would say anything about not recognizing it)...

A few weeks later, I had to email my academic advisor back because I never heard from them about it... so you have to stay on top of them. They are slow and inefficient...

The "Texas" class is POLS 2312 (State and Local Govt). You need that, POLS 2311 (US Govt) and both of the US Histories to graduate, so definitely follow-up with your advisor so you're not caught by surprise when you think you're finished.

thanks for the info re: PCCN cert. The academic advisors are slow and inefficient, you say? I could add a few more choice adjectives to go along with those, but I won't. Where do they get these people? It is quite frustrating to deal with mine and sounds like yours is just as bad.

Hi everyone! I am an RN who is interested in going on for BSN at UTA. I read through some of the posts and was wondering exactly how difficult is the online aspect. I have always gone traditional, but have no time and need to spend the least amount of cash that I can to pursue this. I am good with the computer. Also, how hard are the courses? Do they accept alot of previous courses or not? Any help from anyone who knows would be very helpful. Also, is there a clinical component?:nurse:
