Hey there fellow Minnesotans! I am taking Psyc this semester and I have a presentation due in a few weeks on e-learning. Do any of you have any info or interesting facts about e-learning or distance learning? I am having a hard time finding "interesting" info on this subject. Thank You!

Please Help Spazzy Nuse! I have a good week before my presentation and any help would be greatly appreciated. I just need to explain the pro's and con's and offer a article or story from popular press. I have been unable to find any info on this subject so thank you for any suggestions you may have!!

I have taken online courses at University of Phoenix (Computer Information Systems) and this past quarter, I took Math and Intro to Health Care online. I really like online learning just as well, or in some ways better than classroom. The benefits to me is that I can work at my own pace and schedule. Also, I can tailor the class to what I specifically need. I constantly test myself and then work on what I am weak in. I've found that when I'm stuck, I can always question my teacher by e-mail or phone and my fellow on-line students have been a big help. With the relative anonymity of online environment, I sometimes feel more comfortable asking questions than in a traditional environment.

However, I am finding in the nursing curriculum, it helps to be around other students for encouragement and comraderie of those who have similar goals and problems. I am taking my next math class on line also. I am not overly proficient in Algebra, but I still found the online environment helpful.

I completely agree with Drysolong (nice name by the way:chuckle ). I was an LPN and got my RN through Excelsior college.

Pros:

*I could go at my own pace

*I became more able to do things more independantly and confidantly

*I didn't have to go to a classroom

*I could still work full time and maintain a household

*easy access to EC's website which is loaded with info

*numerous internet message boards with students who were in my same *shoes... learning independantly. It's a whole heck of a lot different than traditional programming.

Cons:

*was a wee bit pricey

Two other cons that I can think of are really pros..... I had to consistently kick myself in the butt to study, and I had to do a lot of searching for info. on my own because I didn't have anyone to throw questions at.

I am contemplating Excelsior, once I finish my LPN. The only thing that kind of scares me is the CPNE. What steps did you take to ensure passing CPNE?

I studied my a$$ off.

Everyone is completely freaked out of the CPNE at the beginning. What helps is getting more familiar with it. Read posts people make about their experiences doing theirs. I was terrified when I first started. It was this big, horrible monster lurking in the future just waiting to demolish me. As I went through school I became more familiar with the CPNE. By the time I was taking my last course I was so excited to start on that CPNE stuff that I was having a heck of a time trying to concentrate on that course. When it came to be my turn to start studying for and to take my CPNE, I wasn't nearly as scared. I was actually kind of excited. You will be too. :)

Another thing that helped was attending a workshop. They say you should be ready for your CPNE when you go to the workshop, and use it to fine tune your skills and to get EC staff feedback on how you are doing. I was SO happy that I went. It costs some money, but it's cheaper than repeating the CPNE.

Hi every body

I'm asmaa abd alrahman 32 years, I'm teacher at faculty of nursing & in the same time researcher. I've a problem 2 months ago. My doctorate thesis is about e-learning & i want to design course about patient safety through moodle (learning management system). But till now i didn't saw designed courses in nursing by moodle or any other learning management system to follow. So pls if any body can help me & send any designed courses in nursing (specially adult medical-surgical nursing in emergency, first aid, cardiovascular diseases .......) because i want to generalize e-learning in my nursing faculty.
