Yup! I know how you feel! I was terrible with math! I took a remediation course and it helped tons! I got an A in my math course in my LPN program! Don't give up! Spectrabrite is right...mat is a very important component to nursing, so you want to be sure your confident. Take a nth class and I'm sure it'll help! Good luck!
I would just take the remedial course, plenty people in my LPN program had too. At my technical school, they required the compass test too. I passed everything except the math, and re-took the math portion 2 weeks later and passed it (after watching TONS of tutoring video's on YouTube), so I didn't need to go through the remedial class.
I definitely recommend the remedial class. Those in my class that took the remedial class, are acing the math portion of pharmacology right now, because the math is fresh in their minds for them. For others, myself included, it's been a bit more of a challenge, because math isn't my strong point.
. Try Khanacademy.org they have awesome math videos, and practice exercises. You can start at the very beginning and work your way to college level stuff. I have never been able to learn math in a classroom and this helped me tremendously. I actually LIKE math now! Try it... But the stupid compass exam is holding me back! All 3 technical schools that I've looked into give the compass exam as an entrance test to their LPN program and I've already failed the math part twice. I'm so discouraged. It consists of reading and math and while I'm excellent at reading and english, the math is really holding me back.Have any of you took this exam? Any suggestions? I don't want a bump in the road like this to keep me from what I want to do.
If you want it bad enough, you will find a way to pass. I suck at math. Math is my dragon. I failed the math part three times...and at one of the schools I applied to..I failed the math part by one freaking point! I figured that school wasn't meant to be. I took math classes and that helped me so much! I was able to pass the math part with no problem! I thought my dreams of ever becoming a nurse would never happened...and I kept trying. You'll be able to do the same.
I wish you the best of luck! And LPN school was hard but all worth it in the end.
[color=#2f4f4f]i definitely would suggest taking a remedial math course of some sort that your campus may offer, or have someone in your family or a friend that is good in math to help tutor you in your weaker areas! if you have failed it twice, i am not sure about your college, but in mine we are only allowed to take it three times a year, so we have three times to pass it and if we don't do it, we have to wait one year before retesting. i didn't pass it until my third try...math is what held me back as well. i somehow winged it on my third attempt, but if you really feel you are weak in the math skills that the compass requires, it may be in your best interest to truly look into taking a basic math course over again to refresh your memory and help things click easier before retesting again. i wish you the best of luck! :)
