Hey everyone,
I am starting this thread for the upcoming 2016 Duke RN Residency. Im making the move to NC and I am looking forward to meeting all of you all. I have accepted a position in the CTICU and couldn't be more excited to get up there and get started. Feel free to comment where you all are going to be working and I will see you all in February. Good luck on your NCLEX !

It is just a part of interview that you follow one of the RNs on the floor for about 45 minutes to an hour and the actual interview for another hour. I am pretty sure it is not going to take 4 hours, but probably about 2 hours total? Since it was just a shadowing, I could not actually participate in a procedure, I made sure that I washed my hands when going into the pt's room and helped them with repositioning, etc.
They said shadowing can be done either before or after the actual interview with the managers. But I had it after my actual interview. I strongly recommend you ask your preceptor a lot of questions if can because I found it helpful to make the final decision. Also you probably know about this already, you gotta wear scrubs for the shadowing and interview together since there is no time to change.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions.

Thank you, that was really helpful! I was really stressing what it comprised of since they don't give very much information about it! I know my shadow will be before my formal interview & they said it would take 2 hours but hopefully it'll be short and sweet! Either way I'm excited & just hoping for the best! How long after did you get a job offer?
I recently shadowed and interviewed in both the PCICU and the Intensive Care Nursery and accepted an offer in the ICN starting this July. And congrats to everyone who got interviews and offers!
How did you like PCICU and ICN? That's awesome, congrats! Did you get offers from both? I would love to work at either as long as it's critical care

Thanks! I did get offers from both but I've always been interested in the ICN and I felt like it was a better fit for me. The PCICU was a really nice unit too but definitely a serious learning curve to get to know all the cardiac meds, congenital heart defects, etc. Both are great units though and everyone was super nice! Good luck!
Hey everyone! I interviewed on a Friday (today is Thursday!) and so it's almost been a whole week since interviewing and shadowing. How long do they usually take to get back to you with an offer? My recruiter was out Friday and Monday but the manager I interviewed with said it shouldn't take longer than a week to hear back....Any feedback??
For those of you who shadowed did you bring your stethoscope?
No. You literally just shadow your nurse. You don't need to bring anything but yourself. I know, I went to a peds floor, and put on gloves to help my nurse change a diaper and she told me that I didn't need to. It was more of a "let me show you the unit, the types of patients we have, things specific to the unit, and do you have any questions?"
I asked the nurse a lot of unit specific questions about scheduling, orientation for new grads, etc. So when I got to the manager, I really emphasized how resourceful and helpful the nurses were about answering all my questions and only had one or two general questions for her.
Where are you interviewing? Good luck!
Hey y'all!
I am considering relocating to NC when I graduate in December and was wondering how early you all applied? I want to try and secure a job as close to graduation as possible. Also I will only have my ADN but plan to be enrolled in a BSN as soon as I complete my ADN.
Thank you in advance for the help!

Hello! I work here at Duke now in a Peds critical care unit. I applied maybe 2-3 weeks before graduation and actually made Duke wait about a month to interview me after they expressed interest, so I interviewed about 10 weeks after applying. I received an offer the very next morning after my interview.

What exactly did the shadow portion of the interview consist of? They said my total time to "interview/shadow" will be 4 hours.
