Hi all, I am new to this but anyone got an interview for GI, transplant, and oncology unit?

Hello all,

I just got an email saying I will be interview on Feb 26th for the Adult Medical/Step-Down (Unit 4300).

Any other nervous nellies out there? Any thoughts/ideas/prayers are welcome!

Hi everyone! I know this is a little late, but I am just wondering what all your credentials were before getting interviewed? Once there is only the option to really show yourself through you resume during the initial application.

Hi kknursing,

I am a little late to this thread as well! I hold an ADN (as of May 2015) and I have passed my NCLEX. I am also currently enrolled in an Online BSN program through UMass, Amherst School of Nursing.

Hope that helps!

Did you become employed through the Duke Nurse Residency Program!? I am just kind of wondering what you might think helped you out in the process of being chosen to interview. I am worried I will not stand out enough through just my resume (maybe I'm being dramatic) ;)

So I am interviewing in the 26th of this month and it is through the RN residency program. I'm not sure what I did to stand out, I was terrified they were going to call me to say they made a mistake and not bother coming down!

I would suggest a cover letter that describes a clinical situation where you show your qualities as an awesome nurse. Make sure your resume is up to date and shows future plans for continued education.

Hoping this helps!

Hey everyone! I'm from out of state also (Arkansas) and got an email for an interview for the Pediatric Cardiac ICU! I'm definitely extremely excited and nervous!

Everyone posted a little about their background so here's a little about mine: Was a USAF medic, did an externship at the VA in the PACU and SICU; have also worked as an LPN at the Heart Hospital and the Children's hospital here! I carry roughly about 7 years of medical experiance and knew the ICU would be the challenge that I was looking for!

So glad to see there are more out of state people applying for the residency!

Wow it has been a month already since I checked last time. Though no one asked...I was lucky that I had two interviews + shadowing in the beginning of this month. And I got offers for both units!! If you are having an interview at Duke, you will be surprised by how they welcome you! They were so nice which helped me a lot during the interview. If you have any questions that I can help, let me know. I will try my best.

Since everyone is doing it, I will share a little bit of my experience.

I just graduated Dec 2015 with a BSN. I have worked as a cashier, clerk in the law office, and medical assistant in the clinic. I also did an internship in critical care unit and burn unit. I had several volunteer experiences as well.

I currently work at Duke. One of the previous posts mentioned the survey and point system. When someone from Duke HR spoke with our cohort they said for the new grad / CNI positions they use the info from the survey to assign you a certain # of points. Those applicants with the most points are called for interviews.

However, there are units that don't always follow that system. Whether due to higher turnover compared to other units or units with a lower number of openings and can hirer directly from students who worked on the floor in an externship or capstone position.
