Hello,

I wanted to start a thread for those who are interested in Duke's New Grad Residency program for Spring 2019 ( Feb/March 2019 start dates). I wanted to connect with others who have applied or are planning to apply.

Has anyone interviewed or been in contact with Duke?

Where are you applying to?

Hi!! I have actually accepted a position in the ED at DUH. I have a start date of February 18th! Anyone else??? Also, does anyone have any recommendations for places to live? I am moving from Miami, FL and don't know the area very well. Thanks!

Hey MIAnurse! Congrats on your new position! I'm waiting for some pediatric positions to open up for me to apply, I am also from the Miami area! I really hope I can land a position also! Do you have any tips for the application process or how to really stand out?

I think getting to the interview is the most difficult part. I enjoyed the in person shadowing and interview portion because they made it so easy to be myself. Really research the facility and the unit you want to go to so you can have good questions to ask them. It shows that you are very interested!

Thanks! That's great feedback! I'm just hoping my resume will be good enough to get to the interview phase!

Hi rnbsn16858! I applied for CTICU and CVICU, for which i have an interview coming up. Do you have a start date? I am a little scared as i am going to be coming out of state and may be cutting it close for NCLEX. I've seen a lot of great things regarding Duke's new grad program and I am hoping for the best. What made you choose CTICU?

Hey! thats so awesome to hear. My start date is March 4th. I am also coming out of state so I can understand how you might feel. I've always liked cardiac and I thought CV would be ideal, but when I spoke to the recruiter she told me that CT was surgical and had a higher acuity of patents, and there CV unit was smaller and not so critical.

Hi Everyone! I recently applied to both the CTICU and CICU as well! Thanks @rnbsn16858 for sharing the differences between the two units, very helpful information! I'm sure that it varies for everyone, but about how long after you applied were you contacted by a recruiter? @New_GradRNSD @rnbsn16858

I actually had to reach out to them. I submitted my stuff and waited about 2 maybe 3 weeks and I never heard anything, so I called them asking for them to check the status of my application and then the recruiter said she was going to email my documents over to the manager. Within a few hours I received a call from the recruiter saying the manager was interested and wanted to schedule an interview. So if its been a while I would encourage you to call.

Thank you so much for the advice! Similar timeframe for me. My status switched from application received to in recruitment review in about a day, but I haven't anything since. I was beginning to consider calling but wasn't sure, so I definitely appreciate the encouragement!

You're very welcome!! Keep me posted, it would be so awesome to start with someone lol. I literally know no one

I'll definitely keep you updated. It would be nice to know someone. I'd be relocating from Georgia. Where are you coming from?

I am a little uncertain about which recruiter to speak to. Is it the one for Cardiology, Heart Services or Critical Care, Medicine & Surgery? Seriously, thanks for all of your help. :)
