Dubai/Saudi Nursing

Published

Hey guys

Any Uk nurse been or gone there? I am keen to know what it is is like. Heard more money is earnt in Saudi. What about life style? All comments appreciated.

Saudi is better money ofcourse. Choose your hospital very carefully. Jeddah is the best and most relaxed place, much less restrictive. There is a very lively expat social scene. Lots of parties. you can go to private beach clubs in Jeddah, charter dive boats are a popular passtime.

Dubai has a great nitelife.. Ofcourse drinking is offically illegal in Saudi. It does go on alot. you must be carefull not to EVER go in public while drinking.

Women can find it restrictive in Saudi not to drive. Dubai ofcourse you can drive there. dubai has a much better lifestyle. But both can be enjoyed. Saudi's are more rude and less tolerant of western women. They can get sexullay aggressive if you put yourself in the wrong situation. Most will treat you with respect. But it only takes the one to spoil your impression.

There is a good book out there. Recommended for anyone thinking of taking a job in the middle east.

The book is called "Paramedic to the Prince" by Tom Notestine an American Paramedic that spent ten years in Saudi. Gives you a good idea what to expect over there. Also a very good read as well. Good luck and take care

Thread moved to the International forum since it is not specific to working in the UK. We are trying to leave the sub-forums for questions specific to working in that country or countries.

Per the banner at the top of the UK Forum, anything having to do with working in other countries should be posted under the Internatonal forum directly.

Thanks for your understanding.
