Hi Everyone!
I received acceptance to two different schools. The first school I received acceptance from is not the school I want to attend, however I have proceeded with them up until this point. I sent a deposit, met with the financial aid adviser, and began the online orientation.
Now I have received an acceptance letter from my first choice school...how do I tell the first program that I will not be attending their school? Is there a customary format? What do I say? Should I say why I choose the other school? It is because of proximity and lower tuition, so it isn't because the fist program isn't amazing...I hear it is. Anyways I started the email and I'm hesitant to send it. It feels very awkward! Please help. I want to send it STAT so the alternates hear sooner rather than later.
This is a QUALITY problem to have. I am grateful to have this opportunity to pick! Good luck to everyone in the application process. It is stressful, I know. In the end, it is worth all the stress because we will be NURSES one day! :)

I would just keep it simple -- you appreciate the offer but have chosen to attend another program. I wouldn't really elaborate unless they either (1) ask for specific after they receive your email or (2) there are conditions that must be met to return any/all of your deposit.

Can you get your deposit back? When I thought of applying to multiple schools, I always told myself I would wait for a reply from at least three if time permitted. I know my school gave you three weeks to accept or deny.

203bravo- Thanks for the input! I sent the email, short and sweet. I didn't mention why, even though I felt the need to explain myself for some reason?!?
PurpleLover- I think every school is different. For me, I decide to pay the deposit knowing I wouldn't get it back if I got in somewhere else. The money paid was worth the security of I got knowing that I was going to start somewhere
