drug testing in school

Nurses General Nursing

So I am a nursing student and I hear all the time that hospitals do random drug testing often. However; I only had to take a drug test to get into school, and haven't had one since. Do you think schools should also do random drug screens, how many drug test did you take while in school, and was there a reason for having to submit more than one?

That may or may not be true. I hurt my back once at work. I was leaning over drawing blood and all of a sudden pain just went through me like a lightening bolt. It was all I could do to walk out of the room and over to the nurse's station. My nurse manager sent me home, but I was required by hospital policy to go to employee health first, where I was evaluated as well as drug tested. I heard later that anyone injured on the job will be drug tested.

DH has gone to occupational health twice with a back injury and was drug tested both times. It's a routine part of the process with any work injury.

Drug testing shows marijuana within a months use. I have kept clean for nursing school but as nurses it should be evidence that alcohol which is legal causes so many health problems and marijuana has only been proven to cause legal detriments. You shouldn't be high taking care of patients but it shouldn't be so bad to smoke a joint after getting off work to relieving stress

In school- no drug tests (long time ago!!)

At work- pre-employment tests- just about everywhere after the early 90s; when I worked at a drug and alcohol rehab place, they did random testing, and yes, we were monitored- but it was as discrete as possible (bathroom door left open an inch or so). :uhoh3:

Pot can actually show up more than a month later, depending on fat stores and changes in diet and activity....saw it when working alcohol/drug rehab, and the docs explained how it worked. It also depends on the cutoff of the test- some are more sensitive than others. People coming off of pot do have physical symptoms, and look like a bunch of rocks for a week. Nothing at home in the eyes... :uhoh3::eek:

i do not use drugs!!!!! but i am terrified of the fact that someone might be watching me urinate during my drug test for nursing school!!!! so i must know, does employee health services in texas require you to have someone in the room with you during that. the thought of someone watching me pee is nerve racking...i don't even allow my husband in the restroom with me....please help to console my mind!! :redbeathe

during all of my drug testing for both nursing school and pre-employment, i never had anyone watch me. what they did was :

1 .escort me to a bathroom, explain that the water is turned off, that you needed fill the sample cup at least to a point marked on the container

2.then you place the sample in a 'cubby' type thing when you were done and close it,

3. when the person heard the cubby door close, they would open it and remove the sample,

4.the water to the sink and toilet was then turned back on, you could flush the toilet and wash your hands,

5. and then you left the bathroom.
