Long time lurker, first time poster here. Changing careers from nonprofit fundraising to nursing.
I've been interested in health and medicine since my first boyfriend (a med student) gave me The House of God. Kind of dated with its attitudes toward women, but I loved it. Since then I've read every medical & nursing memoir I could find--three times.
One day, I realized that instead of reading about this stuff, I could go back to school. :roll
I'm going into Drexel U's Accelerated BSN program this fall. I'm looking for anyone with first or second-hand knowledge of the program. I have a bunch of questions & can't contain my excitement. We did have an info session in March, but I did not meet any current students so I didn't get the inside scoop. Besides I don't feel comfortable asking certain questions (eg. are the uniforms hideous? or are there any bad classes?)
Btw I love this forum. I don't know any other nursing students, so you have been my virtual community. Thanks.
Piper-
I have pestered you for info this past winter and now i'm back feeling like..
I am in my 2nd quarter just finished midterms.. its been pure screaming torturous hell. Our pharm professor, nice professional lady that she is, told us in not so many words we are the dumbest ACE class she has seen so far ..her exact words were "this is the biggest curve ever given, and I know I'm the constant." so that is always a joyous thing to hear. But having said that, I'm still doing ok, miraculously.. so my mind is starting to wonder how well one would need to do to get into this honor society thingie-ma-bob. I dont really know anything about it, but I'm curious if they figure that crap out now or after our finals grades are in.. i am just a few tenths from A's in two classes and I'm thinking they wont round up.. so perhaps if they waited, i'd have a chance? I dont know... I think the whole program has me so stressed that I will have to commit myself to my mental hospital by the end of the term. And I dont know if its worth working towards being in, even..Oh well, just a thought..if you happen to know anything about it, or have any opinions..I'd love to hear it.. if not, that's fine! i appreciate you listenin to me!
:)
thanks!

They do round up - so a 76.45 and up is a C and so on.
I'm not sure which of the pharm profs you are talking about. If it's the one that insists on calling on people randomly and never really talks about pharm - just ignore her. If it's the other one, well, maybe you guys are just having a hard time 'cause she's really good. DON'T read the book and memorize everything she says in lecture. She doesn't test from the book at all. Feel free to PM me.
The honor society takes the top 1/3 (or maybe 1/4 - I forget) of the class. Not sure if there's a minimum GPA requirement - probably 3.0. They do it at a certain time of the year so they go with your current GPA at that time. Luck of the draw. I'm in the honor society and I don't think it helped me get a job or will help me get into grad school. Just another thing to stress about endlessly.
Feeling totally stressed out? Like you're going crazy? That sounds about right. I graduated a year ago and I still cringe when I think about the ACE program. It sucks, but you're half way through. By the 4th quarter you'll be pretty used to it and thrilled that you're only 11 weeks away from freedom.

Hi there,
I'd love any info you have about Drexel's ACE program. I'll be entering in the Fall 2006. Did you graduate from there? What are the classes/clinicals like? Could you tell me what hospitals clinicals are held at? I'm trying to figure out if I'll be needing a car for the year. I hear that the program is difficult to get through because it's so fast paced...any input??
Thanks for your help!

Would love to find out about it myself...I am currently a LPN going thru. a RN ASN program. When I finish with this I am looking to continue with my BSN but completely On-line...that is why I am looking to a good university such as Drexel...
Anyone have any experience with this?

Sadly, it doesn't work that way. Both the D and the A would show up on your transcripts.
