Doula LPN....

Published

I'm a new LPN basically... and would love to work in L&D, but have no hospital experience. I've been wondering about getting my doula certification. I'm curious if this would help me land a job on a L&D floor as a new LPN? I know hospitals mainly hire RN's for L&D, but I was just wondering if this could be of help at all?...

Well first you have to find out if your local hospitals hire LPNs in L&D. If not, then no amount of additional certification except of course getting your RN license will help you get a job in there. I have been able to work in Mother-Baby/Postpartum as an LPN, but LPNs are generally not used in the L&D side due to our more limited scope of practices. Usually the LPNs that work in L&D are not the primary nurse but work as assistance to the RNs or as a scrub. Good luck with your pursuit!

I am looking into this as well as an LPN, I don't know if we need official doula training if your already a licensed nurse. Can't we just promote it as private duty nursing?
