Double Degrees

In recent time, there is more double degrees (with nursing) available.

some examples are, nursing and public health, nursing and health promotion, nursing and art, nursing and international study, nursing and psychology, nursing and midwifery, nursing and commerce ... etc

Do you believe, it is worthwhile to do a double degree course and a single nursing degree course? Does a extra degree give you more benefits compared to other nurses with a single degree?

Will you do it?

Personally, i completed nursing and health promotion degrees with honours few year ago. I didn't think the 'extra knowledge' from the other degree helped me a lot in the first few years. However, once i am in nursing for few years and get more involved in the nursing profession, i started using the extra knowledge.

Beside that, two degrees does sound better than a single nursing degree

Hi mady,

I am doing the Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Public Health double degee at the moment. I am in my 3rd year (out of 4) and there are only 5 of us left. My motivation for completing the double degree is extended career prospects. Public health can take on a few streams, such as disability studies, but for us it is Health Promotion. We are constantly being told that we must keep up to date in Health Promotion advancements aswell as nursing so it should be interesting to see what kind of jobs I can get. A lot of students have dropped out of the double degrees as it is another year of being a student and they want to earn $$$. I still have no idea what type of nursing I want to do- all i know is what areas i don't like :D

I honestly believe that double degrees are worthwhile as it offers more opportunities for wider learning, and in theory all learning is good. Yes- i do look at all my straight nursing degree friends about to graduate and wish i was one of them. Sometimes it even feels like I have been left behind, like I have done something wrong (such as failing) and therefore need to keep doing more work, but these moments are very fleeting. I think if a person enjoys what they are doing, or studying then it is worthwhile.

And yes - i also think that two degrees sounds better than one.

I would have loved to do a double degree so that I did not have to rely on nursing only for my future. That would make the four years really worthwhile

i.e. BN/ B prim ed. BN/ B of laws. BN/ B of commerce that would give two bites to the cherry. Then specialise in whatever prof. later. C

I stand corrected with the BN /B. Laws by student lawyers that surround me, it would take 6 years for that. C
