DOT Medical Exam Training for NPs

Published

Has anyone on here started their DOT Medical Examiner training yet? The government now requires all NP's to obtain training in order to conduct DOT examinations on commercial vehicle drivers. The training courses I found are all pretty expensive. Does anyone have experience with https://www.nrcmetrainingonline.com/ or http://www.concentra.com ?

Requirement goes into place starting May 2014. You have time (though not a ton).

Not an easy website site to find, but this lists all training courses approved and submitted to NRCME to date. https://nationalregistry.fmcsa.dot.gov/NRPublicUI/TrainingOrgList.seam

Be careful and ensure the course you might select is one offered by an approved provider-see the instructions. AANP doing a training at the Annual Conference and its a $ deal. Remember we got this authority to perform CMV driver exams in 1992, lets get all NPs who want to continue to do them, certified before May 21, 2014 and hold a federal agency certification!!

Specializes in FNP, ONP.

I just decided not to do them at all. We have a business here in town that does these sorts of things, along with flight exams, sports physicals, disability, lawsuits, workman's comp, etc., exclusively. I just send them there. Too much paperwork and total PITA that I do not need.

We do too few of them in our office for us to get the training. I don't know if the doc is going to decide not to do them at all, or just get certified himself, or what.
