Don't Want To Touch Patients!

I'm a pre-nursing student. I'm also a total germaphobe. Have been my entire life. I want to be a nurse and help others. My personality is very nurturing but I'm not sure I would enjoy touching people. Is there a type of nurse that can help patients without physically coming in contact with them?

My vote is for oven mitts.

HA! :roflmao:

(no, but seriously, will they be lined with some impervious material, because I don't want any gag-nasty stuff to get on my hands!)

My very special, custom made Nursing Care Mitts would have an antibacterial lining, and outer Teflon coating...... as well as being fomite-resistant.

Nursing is very dirty work. I work with healthy patients (labor and delivery), but still see tons of gross things, and yes often have amniotic fluid and/or blood on me(and the other day meconium on my shoes...that was the grossest!). Even if patient's are clean and tidy, a human touch is something they often crave. I often touch my patients on their arms, shoulders, (bellies when positioning monitors), as a comforting touch.
