Don't call 911

Published

I work in assisted living. There are 2 residents who complain of chest pain once in awhile. The families are telling us not to call 911 when they complain of chest pain because they believe it is just "anxiety" However, with my luck, the day I would not call 911 would probably be the day that they would actually have a fatal heart attack. What would you do? We have no crash cart here-nothing for emergencies.

Um...if you are the nurse in charge....you do what you need to do. No one ever got sued for calling 911 to have a pt checked out if they had reports of chest pain. Not calling.....different story.

Thanks all for your opinions. :yeah:Yes, I am going to continue to call 911. One of those residents does have NTG which did not provide immediate relief last time. Of course, once he actually arrived inside the ER building then it worked and he said no more chest pain. Our facility said they were going to find him a new place to live because he is going to the ER too much for chest pain.
