DON in LTC Missouri rules

Published

I have been offered the Don position at my facility and one of my problems is that the current Don Works 9 to 5. I have a one hour commute and I'm actually used to working 6-2. I was just curious if there was anything that said I HAD to work 9 to 5 or could I do 7-3, or 8-4...as long as it's 8hrs during the day.

That would be up to the discretion of whoever it is you report to, most likely. However, you may find that administrative duties require you to be available later than 2pm. I know that in my job, meetings are often scheduled for 3pm or later- it's all dependent upon the availability of when most of those who need to attend can be free, and those lower on the totem pole are at their mercy.

Like Rose_Queen says, your work hours are subject to your employer's needs.

They are also a point of negotiation- before you accept, think how you can get what you need and still be a solution to their needs. "I would like to come in early to touch base with the night shift. I am flexible and can adjust my work hours as needed"

If the position is exempt (salary as opposed to hourly pay), you have even more flexibility.

Best wishes,

Nurse Beth
