Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone here has applied to the Accelerated BSN nursing program at Dominican College in NY starting in May 2013?

CONGRATS TO YOU ALL!!

I guess I will be seeing you guys at orientation because I also got in! I am super excited but i have heard so many horror stories on here that I am a little bit nervous. How about y'all? Do you ladies know anyone who has graduated form their nursing program?

Let me know!

Hi @tiprizzo,

Some of us from this thread are actually finishing and graduating in may. This was from last year!

Best of luck to you!

Emily

@Ed4200 OH MY!!! How embarrassing! LOL In that case...how was it?? And how much was it?! Congrats!

@ed4200 Also...how much were the uniforms? I'm trying to debate on how much money to bring to orientation this week. What days/hours are you in school and clinicals? I have an almost 7 year old and I'm just trying to get a grasp of what to expect...Thank a million!!

Hi @tiprizzo, I'm in the absn now...I can't remember how much the uniforms were but I would recommend getting 2 uniform tops, you never know what's going to get on you during clinical! A couple of penlights would also be good to get, I dont don't remeber being told we needed them but youll use it once you start doing assessments (I only say to get a couple because I would lose mine all the time) The program is very demanding and you have to be willing to put in a LOT of work on your own time, there's not much room to slack off! Find reliable people to study with in your class, I think that was a huge factor in my success in the program. It's a tough program but definitely possible to get through. Good luck! If you have any questions, feel free to private message me

Hi I am supposed to be starting ABSN this May 2014 and had a few questions. I feel like the orientation/orientation packet were very disorganized.

For the health assessment forms do we need to have those in by May 1st in the certified background check? It says a School Representative and a Health Representative from the clinical site must sign it.

Hi Andy1415,

Congrats on getting into the ABSN.

Yes, the orientation packet was confusing at first for me as well... As for the papers that must be signed you said, I think I just signed my portions and submitted them through certified background. You could always call the nursing office if you have more questions regarding that paperwork though!

Good luck!! The program is totally doable if you study hard and stay focused.

Wow thank you that was fast! Yeah I have been calling to no avail. Also, I was scared to email my adviser too many times. Thank you so much! That makes sense! Yeah, I'm going to have to sharpen up on my study skills but it will be worth it in the end!

Also, do you recommend buying the most current edition of textbooks or could we get by buying an earlier edition?

Yea I have the app on my phone! Just email her... Your already accepted so who cares!! She is there for your guidance!

Yes, definitely sharpen your study skills as you will need them!

It is best to have the most updated books and what they tell you to get. I personally felt it easier to purchase some of them on my iPad through the kno application so I always had most of my books with me.

You can do that online through the evolve Elsevier website ... You can also access the books that you purchase online with a computer as well once you log in to that website....it definitely was A lot easier to use and less to carry around!

True, that's what we are paying for. You have been so helpful though, thank you! I'll try to find this app also ...I doubt they will have it on windows phone though, lol. My phone recently broke so I was forced to get a WP8 Phone :(. I am definitely going to check out that website to get e-books (back savers) :).

Again, thank you so much!!!!!!

I will be joining the class this May as well. How are you handing the tuition? Did you have to get private loans? The whole immunization thing is crazy. Plus I got my physical too early thinking I was doing something good. But...they want it dated after May 1st and they have to be uploaded on the 16th. It's a lot but it's worth it. Good luck and congrats!!

Oh WOW! I wish it would have said that in the packet or orientation! I too got my physical early :(... I have been very frustrated thus far with missing information/incorrect information. The tuition thing right now is weird for me. Eventually I will take out private loans but I was fortunate enough to put some savings away during the past year that should get me through the first trimester. How long does the whole private loan process take? Should I be doing that now for the 2nd and 3rd semesters? Do you have an email you would feel more comfortable talking about these things?
